Winding River Gallery of Stewiacke

The Winding River Gallery of Stewiacke, Nova Scotia will host a reading and book signing of Lance Woolaver’s new biography of Maud Lewis on Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m.  The monumental biography MAUD LEWIS: The Heart on the Door is the first complete biography of the famous Nova Scotia folk artist.  At 500 pages, the biography is a long and often difficult book: much of Maud’s life was unhappy and troubled, but her cheerful and hopeful paintings left Nova Scotia a bright legacy.

Woolaver’s biography is the product of years of field research, much in the company of the famous Yarmouth photographer Bob Brooks.  Their pictorial biography The Illuminated Life of Maud Lewis (Nimbus Publishing, Halifax, N.S. 1996) is still in print.  The new text-based biography has been published by the Nova Scotia publisher Spencer Books.
